DAWN-DUSK-DAWN is a project that calls us, in this moment of social and environmental collapse, in the middle of one of its most destructive metropolis,to make space to be with nature - and with the knowledge of the people that live in kinship with nature - in an embodied manner.
The work created an immersive healing space, made with sculptures where transformed and evolved over time, and activated through public programming. Ocupping the gallery space of Recess Art, in Brooklyn, NY, during the Session Fellowship, the works included a big scale nest-like woven sculpture, a collection of ceramic sculptures to be played by the public, a series of drawings and paintings and a group of immersive large cyanotypes, reflected on the cycles of life and inner, collective and nature regeneration. Guest Artists and cultural organizers co-hosted a healing activities with singing, movement, food and poetry.
The project both recalls and trusts the importance of intimate/safe space for inner and peer reflection on environmental issues: How do we impact and are we impacted by the tragedies of our current times? Can we make space to heal ourselves, and, with that, heal the environment around us? Instead of reinventing the wheel, can we care for what we have (in every person and in every form of life) and trust the regenerative power in nature and in ourselves as living parts of nature? DAWN-DUSK-DAWN hopes to be a refuge space for the lessons of land-based people’s knowledge encapsulated in the indigenous leader Ailton Krenak’s quest to: “change the destiny of the metropolis to a becoming forest, so we all are able to have a future."
